Did You Know...

  • All swim team parents are expected to help as volunteers. Meets cannot occur without this help.
  • Participating on the swim team as a parent is easy - just contact on of the coaches.
  • Being a timer is easy - you watch for a strobe light at the start of each heat, start a stop-watch (supplied), and stop the stop-watch when the heat completes.
  • When you are a timer, you may be asked to hold the clip-board for the lane. Please verify each swimmer's name as they approach the block and please write the exact times you and your lane partner have legibly for each heat.
  • As a timer, you may also be pressing on a plunger that acts as a back-up electronic time.
  • It is much cooler on deck and you are closer to the action when you are volunteering on-deck.
  • Scorers require training in Meet Manager - this takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. No previous experience required, but being comfortable with computer software is a plus.
  • Console operators require approximately 1 hour of training and one or two meets as a 'shadow' for an existing console operator. No previous experience required.
  • Official's training typically occurs at the beginning of each season and is valid for 3 years, however, each year you are expected to participate in a brief rules update session (typically 1 hour).
  • If you want to be a referee or starter, you need to first be a stroke-and-turn official for at least one year.
